Shallow SeaFET/SeapHOx V2 pH sensors

Reintroducing the Shallow SeaFET™ V2 and Shallow SeapHOx™ V2!

We are delighted to announce that we have restarted production and service of our cutting-edge Shallow SeaFET™ V2 and Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 pH sensors! After rigorous qualification, testing, and field deployments, we are now accepting requests for quotes and service.

Shallow SeaFET™ V2

Shallow SeaFETThe Shallow SeaFET™ V2 ocean pH sensor uses the ISFET technology for stable, long-term pH measurements in salt water. The pH sensor has been used extensively around the globe for ocean acidification research, coral reef research, coastal marine biology, and environmental monitoring. The Shallow SeaFET™ V2 ocean pH sensor can be fully autonomous with internal power, sample scheduling, and data logging capabilities.

Shallow SeapHOx™ V2

Shallow SeapHOxThe Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 combines the Shallow SeaFET™ V2 pH sensor with the SBE 37-SMP-ODO MicroCAT CTD+DO sensor. This integration enables comprehensive data collection of pH alongside critical oceanographic and biological measurements of temperature, salinity, and oxygen. The Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 benefits from the SBE 37SMP-ODO’s pumped flow path and anti-fouling technology, sometimes extending deployment durations.

Questions?

How can I request service of my Shallow SeaFET™ V2 or Shallow SeapHOx™ V2?

Please submit an RMA Service Request Form. Under the Instrument List, be sure to select SeaFET V2 or SeapHOx V2 as appropriate.

If you are located within Canada: Please note that Sea-Bird Scientific recently partnered with TERAMARA (formerly DASCO Equipment Inc.) as an exclusive representative and distributor within Canada.  Canadian customers should proceed with service requests through TERAMARA.  TERAMARA will complete the RMA Request Form, provide shipping instructions with a preliminary quote, and handle customs clearance.  To proceed with return for service, please contact TERAMARA directly at sales@teramara.ca.  To ensure that TERAMARA can accurately complete the RMA Request Form, be sure to provide Model Numbers, Serial Numbers, and any other relevant information (e.g., Technical Support Case Number, Deployment Date).

How long will it take to service my Shallow SeaFET™ V2 or Shallow SeapHOx™ V2?

For the most up-to-date lead times, please refer to your RMA Service request or contact your Sea-Bird Scientific sales representative.

I already have a Deep SeapHOx™ V2. Why would I also need a Shallow SeapHOx™ V2?

The Deep SeapHOx™ V2 is ideal for applications up to 2000 meters deep, whereas the Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 is ideal for applications up to 50 meters deep. For a more detailed breakdown of specification differences, please visit our Moored pH Ocean Monitoring Systems page.

What makes the Shallow SeaFET™ V2 and Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 unique?

What makes the Shallow SeaFET™ V2 and Shallow SeapHOx™ V2 unique is the sensing element, which is an ion-sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET). This class of device has been used for pH sensing in industrial processes, food processing, clinical analysis, and environmental monitoring. The advantages of the ISFET include robustness, stability, and precision that make it suitable for ocean pH measurement at low pressure. The ISFET potential is measured against two separate reference electrodes: one bearing a liquid junction (internal reference) and a solid-state reference electrode (external reference), providing the user with the ability to assess instrument performance and ultimately achieve a greater understanding of the state of acid/base equilibria in seawater.

Can I request service of my Shallow SeaFET™ V1 and Shallow SeapHOx™ V1?

Service is only available for the Shallow SeaFET V2 and Shallow SeapHOx V2. Service for the Shallow SeaFET V1 and Shallow SeapHOx V1 was discontinued on 01 June 2021 prior to the ongoing service hold.  To express our gratitude for your patience and understanding over the past three years, the company is happy to offer a $2,500 USD trade-in discount with the purchase of a new V2. To learn more, please contact your Sea-Bird Scientific sales representative or sales@seabird.com.

How can I identify whether my instrument is a V1 or V2 model?

If your instrument has a serial number higher than PHS-1051, you have a V2 model. If the serial number is less than PHS-1051, please contact your Sea-Bird Scientific sales representative or sales@seabird.com to confirm.

I'm a Sea-Bird Scientific customer and I still have questions. What should I do?

Please contact your Sea-Bird Scientific sales representative or sales@seabird.com.
